We operate our business in an Environmentally sensitive way. Ensuring that all Environmental legislation apply.

I am pleased to announce that Beechwood has joined the Green tourism Business scheme. (Silver Accreditation)

Beechwood is becoming a more Eco friendly B and B.

1. 21 solar panels fitted to south roof for electricity
2. Power saving lights throughout.
3. Wood burner in lounge.
4. Thermostatic controls fitted to all radiators.
5. A rated appliances are bought.
6. Boiler maintenance.
7. Water efficient washing machine (30 minute cycle).
8. Water butts outside front and back to water flowers.
9. Monitoring of water ( signs in all rooms to save water).
10. Monitoring waste and Recycling.
11. Monitoring travel and transport.
12. Green information available to customers.
13. Totally non-smoking.
14. Green laundry practices.
15. Roof insulation.
16. Triple glazing fitted all upstairs last year. Double glazing downstairs.
17. Power downs fitted to Tv's and computers, so if left on standby will switch off in 30 seconds.
18. Natural products used for cleaning (chlorine free).
19. All plastics, cardboard and bottles recycled weekly.
20. Locally produced food and drink. Fair Trade (downloadable Word document 12mb).
21. Everything is done electronically to save paper.
22. All batteries are re-chargeable.
23. Use less paper in marketing.
24. Electrical items/mobile phones all re-cycled.
25. Information on public transport, and walks.
26. Cycle hire information.
27. Car free activities.
28. Garden. wildlife encouraged. All trees in garden planted to encourage wild- life. Information available about nature related attractions. The garden is mulched every year with recycled wood chips. Old railway sleepers have been used to extend the decking.
29. Bird food containers around the garden. Letter box used every year for nesting. Postman encouraged not to use letter box during nesting time.
30. Towels and bedding signs in rooms, to encourage guests to decide when they need bedding and towels changed.
31. Bins in all rooms are emptied according to the waste to be re-cycled.

36. Lights outside are on a sensor to switch off after 60 seconds, or are solar powered.
